My Approaches

NeuroBodyWorks combines 3 modalities for your benefit.

I blend the work of Moshe Feldenkrais, Anat Baniel, and my knowledge as a licensed massage therapist.

It’s a results-oriented bodywork from the point of view of the brain. That means your improvement is built from the inside out. Through this process you’ll develop the skills to feel yourself as an integrated whole, instead of isolated parts.

This is not a cookie-cutter set of exercises. Get ready to be reacquainted with yourself, the unique, one-and-only you! You’ll become aware of yourself and your posture, overcome current limitations and keep yourself out of pain in the future. This approach empowers you to feel great and enjoy life.

The Feldenkrais Method

Moshe Feldenkrais, D. Sc. (1904-1984), was an internationally regarded scientist, physicist, and engineer. He earned his D. Sc. in physics from the Sorbonne. Early in his career he worked closely with Nobel Prize Laureate Frederic Joliot-Curie at the Curie Institute in Paris. At the same time he was a Judo black belt and highly respected instructor who published several books on the subject. Judo founder Jigoro Kano chose Dr. Feldenkrais to open the Judo club of Paris- the first such school in the West.

While living in England in the 1940s, Dr. Feldenkrais found himself unable to walk after suffering a severe knee injury. Using his vast knowledge of such diverse systems as anatomy and physiology, developmental biology, psychology, physics and learning theory, he began an intense exploration into the relationship between movement, thinking, feeling, and learning. As a result, he made a full recovery-regaining his ability to walk without pain and even returning to Judo in later life. The synthesis of his discoveries became the Feldenkrais Method. The Anat Baniel Method

My teacher and mentor

Anat Baniel is the author of two highly acclaimed books, Move Into Life: The Nine Essentials for Lifelong Vitality and Kids Beyond Limits. She was a close associate of Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais for over a decade. After graduating from his training program in 1977, she began working full time as a teacher in his method. In 1986 she founded her own training organization and has been involved in training over 1000 practitioners during her career.

She is best known for her outstanding work with Children with Special Needs. I have seen her create seemingly miraculous outcomes many times over. And through studying with her I have learned to tune in similarly. Over her 40 year career, she has developed 9 principles for waking up the brain and maximizing anyone’s potential, no matter the diagnosis. You can start using these principles now to improve your life!

The 9 Essentials

1. Movement with Attention
Movement done automatically creates little or no new connections in the brain.

2. Slow
The time to feel.

3. Variation
Variation is food for the brain.

4. Subtlety
The reduction of intensity increases sensitivity.

5. Enthusiasm
The skill of amplification

6. Flexible Goals
Be the tortoise, not the hare.

7. The Learning Switch
Being in the mode of feeling.

8. Imagination and Dreams
The preview of what comes next.

9. Awareness
Awaken the observer within.

Massage Therapy

Licensed Massage Therapist

Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, and Pathology allow me to pinpoint the exact muscles and movements causing you pain. With that understanding, you can easily feel what causes pain and what relieves it.

The palpation of tissue reveals the organization of muscles by the brain. With your permission, I can share my session notes with your team of providers, offering the maximum coordination of your care.

Additionally, as an LMT, I can also create Superbills that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement if your plan covers massage.
